![]() ![]() After Lady Macbeth has pushed Macbeth to murder the king, she goes mad with guilt. Although becoming king was something Macbeth did want on his own, he did not have the wild ambition that Lady Macbeth has in the pursuit and she quickly overpowered his own vision for how he could become king. Lady Macbeth Character Traits – She is ambitious and serves as the driving force behind Macbeth’s pursuit of the throne. His descent into madness shows his extreme discomfort with being a crooked leader and murderer. He tends to meet problems with violence and murder in an attempt at a quick fix, which drives him down a path of madness. Once Macbeth leaves behind the battlefield to test his abilities as a leader, it becomes clear that Macbeth does not have the patience or cleverness to claim the throne and keep it. Aside from his fatal flaw of being easily influenced, Macbeth is painted as a brave war hero who has done everything he can for his country. However, it is quickly revealed that Macbeth is easily influenced by outside forces when three Witches show up with a prophecy that he will become king of Scotland. He is the thane of Glamis and has the potential to rise nobly through the ranks. Throughout the play, Banquo acts as the contrast to Macbeth’s evilness as he is guided by light.Macbeth Character Traits – In the start of the play, Macbeth is introduced as a Scottish military general. Even after the death of Banquo, Macbeth has hallucinations of Banquo appearing in front of him as a ghost. As a result, of this attempt, Banquo dies but Fleance runs away. ![]() After the encounter with the three witches, Banquo clearly rejects the prophetic greetings of the witches though the witches prophesied that Banquo will father a line of kings although he fails to be one.ĭue to Macbeth’s fear of Banquo that he will suspect him of the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth arranges Banquo and his son Fleance to be murdered. ![]() ![]() However at the end of the play, it is Macduff, who kills Macbeth and saves the land from the evil hands of Macbeth.īanquo is a general of King Duncan’s army who bravely fights with Macbeth on the battlefield. It is not only these two characters, but even the country seems to perish at the hands of an evil ruler. In the later part of the play, we see both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth suffering due to all the evil plans that they implemented. The witches warn him of Macduff but create a false sense of security in Macbeth with their prophecies that no man born of a woman can harm him. Even after the murder of Banquo, Macbeth is tormented by the future that he goes to the witches again. Since Macbeth lives in fear of Banquo, he plans to murder Banquo and his son so that the prophetic greetings of Banquo would not come true. With the assistance of his wife the Lady Macbeth, he becomes king after murdering King Duncan.Īlthough Macbeth becomes king, he is often tormented by his thought or murder and suspicions. After King Duncan promotes Macbeth as the Thane of Cawdor murderous thoughts, enter into Macbeth’s mind. Macbeth is stunned by these greetings due to his ambitious nature. He encounters the three witches on his way from the battlefield, where the witches tempt him with prophetic greetings saying Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and as the future king.
